So sad so close to Christmas.

Baby Jane Doe, found abandoned at a Vancouver bus stop, is still just Jane Doe.

I'm of two minds on that subject. All of this "come back and get your baby" stuff has me rather puzzled. Why does the province want to give babies back to people who leave them on the roadside in plastic bags? This is *clearly* a criminal act, under the Criminal Code (Part VIII). Is it only criminally-negligent parents who qualify for compassion these days? What about all the parents who are desperate, but choose to keep their babies and keep struggling? Where's all the fucking compassion for them?

On the other hand, you have to be pretty far gone to put your baby in a bag. They may just be trying to track this person down before she does herself in.

I don't disagree that it is a criminal act. It's also morally reprehensible.

I would hope that maybe the child could find a home with her grandparents or someone else within her family rather than going to the "highest bidder" (more or less) on the province's adoption waitlist.

Abandoning children at any age makes me sad (yes, even abortion makes me sad); especially now that I have a child of my own, the thought of leaving a child in the hands of fate is completely unthinkable.
