The people backing Mile Zero think so. For me, the jury is still out... I think it would be a bit weird to see this sort of show in my own hometown... but then again, people who live in larger centres (or even Dog River, Saskatchewan) see this all the time. I might feel more positive about it if I were playing a role... maybe as an avid blogger? :)

Victoria needs its own soap opera, but not the gushy travelogue that this thing will be.
LA Confidental showed the seamy underside of a pretty city built by fakers and filled with hustlers.
I've long been wondering why there is so much money in this city. Compare us to Nanaimo. It's smaller but the share of Mercedes and BMWs is much lower per capita. I think it's because the good climate and access to government lackeys makes it fertile ground.
That's the aspect of Mile Zero that I feel confident they will miss out.
If I did it, it would have a circle of friends-- a drug dealer, a political consultant, a doctor, an entrepeneur; and host of their hangers-on.
Man, that's very weird. A Victoria soap opera? Wow.
The site says that it will be " focusing on the social, environmental and political issues..." I was sceptical, but flicked through the pictures and saw a picture of... a panhandler! I'd assumed they'd be glossing over that aspect of the town, but time will tell. There's also -- unexpectedly -- a picture of a buxom lass in a slingshot... or it could have been a bikini. Is Mile Zero going to be the Baywatch of our time?
We all see different sides of our city, and a story can't encompass all of them. You have to pick a view-point and follow the story through. The good thing about a soap is that you have 3 or 4 stories running at once and as one resolves new ones arise, giving a new view and aspect of our city and lives focus. My talk with Karen Davies yesterday revield a commitment to the city, the actors, the series and crew that they all want this to continue and be something good.
Victoria could realy use regual steady work for local talent and crew. Otherwise they dissapear to Vancouver and points south for work.
